Joint reported by R&D Center, Beijing Branch and Southwest Cares
On August 24, 2011, Chengdu Shuangliu Airport Acceptance Check and Launch Meeting was held in Chengdu. Liu Zheng, Deputy General Manager of Air China Southwest Branch, Huang Jianxiong, Vice President of Information Management Department of Air China, Liu Zhen, Deputy General Manager of Air China Beijing Branch, and Lai Hongbo, Deputy General Manger of Aviation Cares of Southwest Chengdu Ltd., and other over 20 company executives attended the meeting. At the meeting, representatives from the airports expressed their satisfaction towards FGOS on trail. Officers from Air China Information Management Department commended highly on FGOS project that was completed three months ahead of schedule. Finally, it was unanimously agreed that the project was passed the acceptance check.
Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is about to build T2 terminal. HCC and ground service of Air China Southwest Branch needed to be strengthened. Moreover, from the on-site operation, it was found that the original flight command system was not able to support the on-site work, with the number of flights increased continuously. In order to meet the increasing passenger service demand, company development requirements, and the needs of hub airport operation, it was a necessary for Air China to launch its Beijing FGOS system to Chengdu.
Currently, FGOS already covered more than 70 positions at HCC and Ground Service Department of Air China Southwest Branch, protecting more than 200 flights at the airport every day. After the launch of T2 terminal, it is estimated that the system will double its business volume. The formal launch of FGOS greatly improves the ground support of every relative departments, which can be reflected in the following aspect:
Firstly, FGOS sets up data interface for the main system of the airport, to share production data, collect and send all production data of ground service to every system, realizing the in-time update of flight information and reducing duplication of information input and delay.
Secondly, FGOS introduces noiseless, paperless and no-pen workflow: to reduce the past messaging passing methods, such as by walkie-talkies, intercom, telephone and fax, changing single-threaded messaging passing into a multi-threaded one. All departments can have access to the latest updated information, which can improve production efficiency and service quality while saving the staff from heavy and repeated work; to reduce a variety of desktop work orders and rely on the system transfer and production commands to improve data accuracy and safety; to reduce manual calculation of various statistics, and use the system for automatic calculation, saving more time for data analyze from simple calculation.
Finally, the graphical interface of FGOS will transfer the rough management into a delicacy one, result-oriented management into process-oriented one, to solve the problem during the working process, not trying to solve it after the problem happens.

To promote FGOS in Air China also has considerable significance to TravelSky:
First, FGOS is among the top3 core business systems in Air China. Currently, it has been launched in the hub airports of Beijing Capital International Airport and Chengdu Shuangliu Airport. Later, it will be promoted to all hub airports of Air china. Its value means increasing marketing fee, maintenance fee and R&D fee from its growing business, and also means closer relationship between TravelSky and other airlines using this core business system.
Second, as the number of passengers in aviation industry grew rapidly in recent years, the flight handling capability of the airport also grew quickly, and airport flight operation management is becoming more and more important. Large and medium-sized airports are in urgent need for a good ground operations management system. However, this part of business is still in the early development stage, with a lot of space for development. Foreign companies (such as IBM) and domestic enterprises (such as the Second Research Institute of CAAC) all have the intention to enter into this area. Facing with this situation of opportunities and challenges, with its own technology edge, TravelSky will expand and improve its existing product lines to seize the market and find a new business and profit growth opportunity. This is the biggest value created by this system.
FGOS Chengdu Shuangliu Airport Project is one important part of Air China “Optimization Work for Information Transfer of Irregular Flight”, and one of Chengdu’s key development projects. As one project of Air China Twelfth Five Year Plan, it is classified as A-Level of Air China Company project, and managed by Cai Jianjiang, President of Air China. Such high level project brought a lot of pressure as well as motivation to us. In less than one year of the project construction, staff of Airport Product R&D Department in R&D Center finished a series of work three months ahead including system R&D, testing, user training, system trial, localization upgrade, and system operation on trail. This is the first project to be finished among many IT projects implemented at Air China Southwest Branch. During the process, Air China Beijing Branch and Southwest Cares also provided strong supports. Liu Liming, Pan Jincheng, Wang Yu, Liu Peng, Ma Qinqin, Qiao Jing and other staffs responsible for on-site operation stayed at Chengdu Shuangliu airport and worked overtime to finish training to over 200 people from tens of airport departments in ten days. They also worked the on-site shift of 7 * 24 hour. Thanks to their effective and hard work, FGOS finally replaced all systems in one night and was formally launched.
The acceptance check and launch of FGOS at Chengdu Shuangliu Airport, marks its first time launch at the terminal outside Beijing. According to the strategy of building airports at Beijing and Chengdu as its hubs, airports at Shanghai as its gate, FGOS will be gradually extended to all hub terminals. With the strong IT support, the operational ability of the terminal will be fully enhanced.
